Mother's Day Special

What a special way to celebrate Mother’s Day 2022!

Yes, our medical evacuation (medevac) team at our Ulaveo Base in Kokopo, East New Britain, did an amazing medevac that transferred a mother to St Mary’s Vunapope Hospital just in time for the safe delivery of her daughter.

Manolos Aviation Ltd CEO Mr Jurgen Ruh said he received a phone call on Saturday (May 07th) at 1530 from East New Britain Provincial Health.

"They said the medevac is in respect of a mother at Uvol with birth complications. The baby was laying sideways, the water broken, and the hand of the baby was coming out first," Ruh said.

"I checked for last light, and giving the distance, could no longer dispatch and return safely. The plan was to depart Sunday (May 08th) at first light."

Sr Audrey and Capt. Rudolph left Ulaveo on Sunday as soon as they could. They arrived at Uvol Catholic Health Centre, in the Melkoi Rural Local Level Government of Pomio District, to pick up the mother. The mother, thirty-four year old Samantha Maloko, was in a difficult situation, and her blood pressure dropping.

“It’s a good thing we rushed her to Vunapope, where all the assistance came from”, says Sr Audrey.

“Samantha went through caesarian section and the baby was very healthy. A big thank you to Dr Felix Diaku and his team at Vunapope Hospital. They were truly amazing,” Sr Audrey said.

Mr Ruh was pleased with the outcome describing it as “a real Mother’s Day” for mother Samantha and her 3.6kg bundle of joy.

The newborn, baby Audrey (named after Sr Audrey), will now grow amongst her four siblings, and loving parents.
